On the Gram

Adam and I had a wonderful belated valentine’s ♥️ dinner at @catch last night before my diabetes decided to crash the party. Going out to restaurants is always tough on blood sugars, and we decided to have the chef prepare a menu for the evening, making pre-bolusing (taking insulin ahead of time to decrease the chances of blood sugar spike) even more difficult. (It’s important to note that i didn’t mind this option because sometimes i like to live a little lol) I ended up just taking insulin after a few courses based on an estimation of how much I ate. well I estimated WRONG. Once we finished dinner and went home, my sugar dipped under 60 in which I started drinking orange juice and eating gummies. Normally when correcting a low, I will feel the symptoms for about 10-15 minutes before I start to feel better and my numbers begin to rise. Unfortunately this wasn’t happening. Every 15 minutes seemed to bring my blood sugar back down rather then going up. I got to the point where I was so full from eating and drinking and so weak that I didn’t want any more. Adam was a saint and ran to the gas station in a snow storm (what is happening vegas) to stock up on candy and orange 🍊juice (fast acting sugar for low blood sugars). After an hour and a half my sugar finally started rising for good. Being too scared to dose again, I barely covered for any of the extra sugar and sky rocketed into the 350 range (i prefer my range to be anywhere from 80-180). Diabetes doesn’t take a day off! it’s always there and it’s always ready to kick you off your high horse when you’re having a good night. But at least the food was INCREDIBLE and I had a hot date! 😉 #cupofoj #type1diabetes #t1dlookslikeme
